Frequently asked questions

Why does polypropylene need corona treatment to print?
Polypropylene has a low surface energy, so untreated sheet repels most inks, coatings, and adhesives. Corona treatment raises the surface energy so ink and toner wet out and bond properly. We stock corona-treated, print-ready polypropylene, but treatment fades over time, so let us know your run date and press and we'll supply freshly treated stock.
What makes polypropylene a good living-hinge material?
Polypropylene resists fatigue cracking when flexed repeatedly, which is exactly what a folding box or living-hinge carton needs at the score line. It scores and folds without snapping and springs back flat, so reusable boxes, binders, and folding displays hold up to thousands of open-close cycles. That fatigue resistance is the property that sets it apart from PVC and PETG.
Is printable polypropylene water and chemical resistant?
Yes. Polypropylene is inherently resistant to water, oils, solvents, and most cleaning chemicals, which is why it is chosen for outdoor tags, lab and industrial labels, and packaging that gets wet or handled hard. The printed image stays legible where coated-paper labels would tear, smear, or delaminate. It is also tear-resistant and recyclable.
Can you slit or cut polypropylene to my exact size?
Yes — we slit, sheet, and cut-to-size in house, including slit-to-width rolls for roll-fed and flexo presses. You can order the exact web width or sheet dimensions your folding-box or label job requires instead of trimming full sheets and wasting corona-treated material.
